Lunar New Year Interschool Competition Winners

Celebrating Year of the Snake Poster Winners

Congratulations 2025 Interschool Lunar New Year Poster Design Competition Winners

To inspire and encourage interest in Chinese history, culture and languages, students designed posters during Languages Week for a competition organised by the WA Bilingual Education Hub (formerly the Perth Southern Chinese Language Hub).

Our talented students showcased artistic skills and cultural knowledge of the Year of the Snake through their creative poster designs in the Chinese Lunar New Year Interschool Poster Competition. All southern region Perth public school contributions were showcased at the local HomeCo. Southlands Boulevarde Shopping Centre in February and March with the top 5 students in each year group category awarded trophies, medals, certificates, and a small gift from event organisers.

This initiative was especially meaningful for our Year 7 students who are just beginning their Chinese learning journey. Despite their limited language knowledge, classroom discussions on traditional celebration foods and customs have enabled them to demonstrate an understanding of Chinese culture and recognise the important role culture plays in language learning. At the same time, students were able to express creativity and originality through their artwork.

Students gained inspiration from a lion dance performance at our school to explore how traditional festivals like Chinese New Year are celebrated not only in China, but in other Asian countries such as Vietnam and English speaking countries around the world.
