Gifted and Talented Students Shine as UN Youth Australia Ambassadors
We are incredibly proud to announce that 3 of our Gifted and Talented students have been selected to represent Melville Senior High School as United Nations Youth Australia Ambassadors at the prestigious UN Youth Australia State Conference and UN Youth Australia Voice Competition.
Luca Wilson Year 9 Gifted and Talented student (pictured above right) will join some of the brightest young minds across Australia during 12-13 April where he will compete to present innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges after winning the state UN Youth Australia Voice Competition in March. He will now represent Western Australia in the UN Youth Voice National Competition this weekend.
The national competition isn’t just about speaking, it’s about creating real change, showcasing sustainability and demonstrating leadership and an opportunity to showcase skills in public speaking, critical thinking, and persuasive communication. We’re excited to learn how Luca continues to shine in the inspiring Voice Competition.
Our other UN Youth Australia Ambassadors, Gifted and Talented students, Ashur Raj in Year 10 and Mitchell Payne in Year 12 represented Melville Senior High School at the recent UN Youth Australia State Conference in Rockingham.
UN Youth Australia State Conference, Rockingham, 7-8 April 2025
The 2-day residential conference theme ‘politics and the economy’ was an incredible opportunity for students across WA to engage in immersive learning, peer-to-peer workshops, interactive problem-solving simulations, and engaging Model United Nations sessions. The conference brought together talented young delegates to practice mock international legislation being passed by the UN. Each participant was assigned a country and tasked with crafting amendments and new clauses to promote meaningful discussions. Lively debates took place following speeches by special guests Senator Fatima Payman – Parliament of Australia and Hon. Hannah Beazley MLA, Minister for Youth (pictured with our students below) who enriched the experience with insightful perspectives.
We are incredibly proud of Ashur, Mitchell and Luca representing Melville Senior High School on the global stage at international events. Our Gifted and Talented students demonstrated exceptional leadership, passion, and commitment to making a positive impact on the world. Student participation in these significant events highlights their ability to advocate for important issues and contribute to global discussions while connecting with like-minded youth across WA.
We can’t wait to witness the positive impact they’ll make to our state in the future.
