Languages

Melville SHS is a culturally diverse school, from our Intensive English Centre, to our International Fee Paying students, to our languages students, there is always a focus on cultural acceptance and inclusivity. With the recent coronavirus outbreak, some of the Year 12 Chinese Language students and dedicated Teacher, Mrs Stephanie Wignell, have been working on a video message to remind China “they are not alone” in this time of need. Together with the UWA Confucius Institute, the students directed, edited and spoke in the video. Mandarin is one of the hardest languages for native English speakers to learn, for that the students deserve an extra ‘well done’ for participating in this project, displaying both skill in learning a second language and a desire to help those effected in any way possible.
