Swimming Carnival 2024

At the end of Week 2, Melville SHS held its first Swimming Carnival in a few years. 120 students participated in the competition, each of them determined to represent and make their houses proud. The class of 2024 celebrated their last House swimming carnival, their first since they were in Year 7. Despite the many lead changes, the bragging rights eventually went to Kwilena, with their relay teams snatching the win — and with it, the lead — from Yonka in the finals moments of the day. Overall, it was a perfect way to cool down from the heat during what was a 40 degree day.

Thank you to the superb efforts of the swimmers, HPE team, Senior School sport coaching students (Certificate II) and parents for making the carnival a wonderfully smooth and enjoyable day for all.

New House Names

This Swimming Carnival saw the school debut new House names in Noongar: Yonka, for Kangaroo; Kwilena, for Dolphin; Weitj, for Emu; Booyi for Turtle.

Pegasus (red) now becomes Yonka.
Cygnus (blue) now becomes Kwilena.
Gryphon (yellow) now becomes Weitj.
Aquila (green) now becomes Booyi.
